Rubicon Trail the know hows....

                                              http://www.youtube.com/user/TheCuttylizzi
This trail is and if not will be on you Bucket LIST if you are a 4x4 enthusiast. It is on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada's in California, near Lake Tahoe. The Rubicon Trail is the "granddaddy of trails." Most of 18 miles of trail consists of large boulders and rocky terrain. The other parts of the trail go across huge granite slabs which have steep inclines and sharp drop offs. This trail is not for the faint at heart!

It does offer some spectacular scenery if you wait long enough for the dust to settle. You can camp along the way at Spider Lake, Buck Island Lake or about 12 miles in there is the Rubicon Springs Campground. This will take a beginner about 6 to 7 hours, or a seasoned wheeler about 4-5 hours if you drive straight through to the campgrounds at Rubicon Springs. The last leg of the journey is about 6 miles (1-2 hours) to paved road.

I recommend almost any type of  4x4 vehicle has made it through, but some are easier than others. Stock Jeeps will do the job, but expect body damage. Vehicles with a long wheel base will have a little trouble with some sharp turns. Skid plates, rocker guards, and tow hooks and straps are a must. It is highly recommended that someone in your group have a winch. The less the vehicle is equipped the more work and damage you can expect.

It is a well worth trip and make sure you just have fun with it! Dont be pissed if something breaks cause you'll be pissed off the whole trip! Watch my video on you tube and you'll see what i mean...and this is my daily driver!

Prosser Pits, Truckee, Ca

Prosser Pits is a intermediate dirt bike track. Most people who've been to Prosser Pits know that it was poorly maintained, and needed quite a bit of work. Now it's actually getting done, one of the local racer's dads has volunteered to maintain the track, and since he owns a snow removal business, he has a loader that usually sits around all summer. Being one of the only girls I've seen out here, its cool that I can hit the smaller course. Forest Service says we're allowed to do anything besides make doubles! Directions: take highway 89 NORTH (towards Sierraville) and follow that until you get to Prosser dam road (not very far) turn right on prosser dam road and keep going until it splits into a Y at the end, go right onto the dirt road, take the next right where it says prosser pits.

Donner Lake Truckee, Ca

Donner Lake is a focal point for many activities. The usual water type activities of swimming, sailing, water skiing (35 MPH Limit), diving, and fishing (Mackinaw, Rainbow, German Brown, and Kokanee) can be enjoyed on our "jewel of the Sierra". There are many accessible points for lounging around the lake. There is Donner State Park on the east end, piers open to the public on the north side, public boat launch, and a private beach on the west end, most of the south shore is private piers and property.
1)Donner Memorial State Park offers the summer vacationer opportunities for camping, picnicking, boating, fishing, water-skiing, and hiking.  In winter, visitors can cross-country ski and snowshoe on trails and enjoy the season's beauty.  Visitors are welcome year-round at the Emigrant Trail Museum and at the Pioneer Monument, built to commemorate those who emigrated to California from the east in the mid-1800's.  Included in the museum are displays and information about one of the earliest pioneer wagon trains, the Donner Party, forced by circumstances to camp at the east end of Donner Lake in the winter of 1846-47, resulting in human suffering and loss of life.
Things to do in the Park:
Fishing
The park has over three miles of frontage on Donner Lake and Donner Creek. Although the fishing is not usually spectacular, the lake has some native kokanee and planted trout. A fishing license is required. (Many fisherment prefer to use the park as a base to visit nearby lakes).
Hiking Trails
The park has about 2.5 miles (4 km.) of hiking trails.  Park property in Coldstream Canyon to the south contains the alignment of the primary Emigrant Trail, which leads up to U.S. Forest Service and the Pacific Crest trails beyond the park.  Maps are for sale at the Emigrant Trail Museum.
Camping and Day Use
Located at Donner Memorial State Park is a campground of 154 sites and a day-use area along the lake with picnic tables, restrooms, a beach, fishing, and a lakeside interpretive trail that has 18 panels which discuss the natural and cultural resources in the area. Also camping here during the fourth of July is a favorite with the locals. You get the best view in the house with your private beach for the fireworks!
Public Piers
               2) Donner Public Piers- These piers look like there private but they aren’t. The 37 piers on the northside of tahoe are one of the most accessible places for the lake. On the weekends I would try and get one before 11 or noon. Many people do not like to share their pier but if there full you can try the kayak launch ramp for some spots by the lake.
               3) The Donner Lake Boat Ramp is located on the northwest corner of the lake. The facilities offered: 2 Lane Boat Ramp, Floating Docks, Fish Cleaning Station, Restrooms, Car and Boat Trailer Parking. Season launching passes are sold at the District Office starting May 6. Up to 3 boats registered in the same name may use the same pass. Bring Vessel Registration certificates for all boats.Launch Fees:CA residents $10.00 - Out of State $15.00 - Parking only $3.00
               4) Shoreline Park and All Access Fishing Pier. Located midway on the north shore of Donner Lake the facilities: This park features bank fishing, picnic tables, and hand launching of small craft and windsurfers. The All Access Fishing Pier was completed with grant monies from the Wildlife Conservation Board. It was designed to provide lake access for persons with any level of physical disability. Please park in designated areas.
West End Beach
               5) Nestled on the West Shore of Donner Lake, this 10 acre day use beach facility offers excellent shaded picnic and barbeque sites for families or groups. Please call the District offices at 530 582-7720 to make reservations. You must complete a Rental Facility Application to reserve a facility. Reservations accepted at least two weeks in advance. American Red Cross Certified Lifeguards supervise the designated swim area. You may call the front gate at 530 582-7777 to check on current conditions. Day passes are 4 for adults and 3 for teens and under. Very nice spot for a reunion or wedding.

Fouth of July Camping Boca Reservoir

This Fourth of July I had the privilege to camp at Boca Reservoir with some friends. We camped at the west side campground that is currently only accessible through Prosser Reservoir or HWY 89 (see end note on directions) due to the dam being closed.
This campground was full for the holiday weekend but was nice because not alot of people coming through due to the detour. The Boca boat ramp is only accessible through this side as well so not many boats on the reservoir this year which is wonderful considering this is the best wakeboarding lake in Tahoe!
Boca Campground sits above the west shore of beautiful Boca Reservoir. Many of the 24 open setting single family campsites over look the reservoir. Large pine and fir trees shade most sites. This location makes a great base camp for activities like: fishing, hunting, hiking, bike riding, boating, swimming, water skiing, windsurfing and sightseeing. A boat launch located one mile from the campground.Pets are allowed here with usual rules of leash and picking up after them.
If in need of some forgotten camping items the Camp Store at Stampede located inside the entrance of Logger Campground offers a variety of camping and fishing equipment and supplies; including ice, snack, grocery and gift items - making it the perfect place to come for those needed items. Another good thing to mention is there is no water at this facility, so make sure you bring cooking and drinking water.
Overall this is the perfect campground if you would like to atv/bike from your campsite to over the 100 accessible miles of trails out in the reservoir area and then take out your boat in the afternoon!
Directions for detour: From Truckee - approximately one mile north on Highway 89, turn right on Prosser Dam Road. Follow across the dam stay on Nevada County Road 787, stay to the right at the first intersection onto Forest Road 73 to Boca Campground and Boat Ramp. GPS to Prosser Dam Road 39.345 120.1721
